These cups have handles so hot tea is no problem. This set has a ceramic strainer and a saucer. Personally I stay away from metal strainers. I like the taste of the tea when made with ceramic strainers. It is a very user friendly tea cup. It makes it easy to steep and re steep your leaves and it has a ceramic lid to cover your tea till you are ready to drink it! Just add a teaspoon or two of tea, add hot water, cover and
